Michael William Powell peacefully passed away on December 6, 2016, at Greenwich Hospital after succumbing to respiratory disease. Michael was born on October 22, 1937, to Michael and Pauline (nee Duchak) Powell in New York City. Michael graduated from Greenwich High School in 1956 and then served in the National Guard. In 1960, Michael joined the Greenwich Police Department, where he served for 27 years before retiring in 1987 as a widely acclaimed detective sergeant. Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus Greenwich Orinoco Chapter 39, for which he served as treasurer. He was an active volunteer at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marcia (nee Moran); his sister, Patricia Ziman and her husband, Ken Ziman; his son, Timothy; his daughters, Tracy and Maureen and Tracy’s husband Joel Hintz; and his grandchildren, Ursula, Jade, Leah, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jillian, Cory, Mark, Beth Anne, Michael, Isabelle, Annie, and Riley. Michael leaves behind innumerable loving friends cultivated throughout the course of his rich life. Following a private burial, a memorial mass will be held at St. Catherine Church, 5 Riverside Avenue, Riverside, CT on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Knights of Columbus or Greenwich Police Silver Shield Scholarship Funds.
