Obituary for Donna Lynn Sobeski

Donna Lynn Sobeski passed away surrounded by love at Nathaniel Witherall on February 2, 2017. Donna was born on August 10, 1967 to Marilyn (Kancir) Sobeski and the late Joseph Sobeski. Donna attended Sacred Heart Grammar School, Greenwich Catholic Middle and graduated from Greenwich High School. After attending Southern Connecticut State University, Donna was employed by Waldenbooks and later by Xerox. In 1991, Donna was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. Donna courageously fought her diagnosis for 25 years to the astonishment of doctors around her. She met every day with the same amount of fearlessness and guts as a butterfly breaking out of its cocoon; a symbol which carried Donna through every surgery, treatment session, and doctor visit. In Donna’s short 49 years, she was able to achieve a lifetime of memories filled with adventures, laughter and love. Whether it was traveling to Bermuda to lay on the beach, Las Vegas to hit the jackpot, Disney World to help her nieces and nephews get to the front of the line, California to see her nephew get married, or North Carolina to spend time with her most cherished friend, Donna treasured every moment, as did her family and friends. In 2012 Donna said goodbye to the only home she had ever known and said hello to a new home at Nathaniel Witherall in Greenwich, CT. Much to her family's comfort, Donna gained a multitude of new family members the minute she entered the doors. They made sure every day was filled with care, happiness and joy; and for that, they will always hold a special place in her family’s heart. The words Thank You are not enough. Donna was predeceased by her father. She is survived by her devoted mother, Marilyn, her loving siblings, Scott (Anna) Sobeski, Barbara (Ed) Sturm, JoEllen Genovese, her cherished best friend, Jennifer (Chris) Ostling, Ingunn MacGregor (Jennifer’s mom), her Godmother, Doris Stempien and her fun Friday friend, Petie Macri. She also leaves the lights and loves of her life, her nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn (Lenny) Carlucci, Ed (Alex) Sturm, Andrew Sturm, Jeff (Christina) Sturm, Kelly Genovese, Victoria Sobeski and Emily, Liz and Erica Ostling. A wake will be held to celebrate Donna's life at Castiglione's Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd. #3, Greenwich, CT on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2pm -5pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry Street, Greenwich, CT on Monday February 6, 2017. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich, CT.
