John W. Stein, Jr. passed away on February 2, 2018. He was born to parents, John and Pauline Stein, on January 31, 1931 in Port Chester, NY. He attended Harrison High School in Harrison, NY and graduated in 1948. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1954. He was Radarman 3rd Class on the USS Palau during the Korean War. His wedding needed to be pushed back due to being deployed. He married his wife, Phyllis Stein (nee Honnold), on November 21, 1953. John worked for York International for 30 years before retiring in 1996. He was avid fan of Dixieland jazz music, and an active member of both Byram Veterans Association and the Ninth District Veterans Association.
John was predeceased by his younger brothers: Philip and William Stein, his son: John (Jack) Stein III, and his granddaughter: Amie Lynn Keenan.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; His children: Jody and Pete Hawreluk, Sue and Tim Keenan, and Jim and Elizabeth Stein; His daughter-in-law, Becky Stein; His grandchildren: Courtney Keenan, Peter Hawreluk, and Payton, Anderson, and Cooper Stein; and his great-granddaughter, Becca Hibner.
There will be a celebration of life held at the Byram Vets Club on March 31, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
